  • ThoughtLab Goes Shooting

    Friday, January 29th, 2010

Although we love to celebrate our successes as a team it always seems difficult to get the time out of busy schedules with clients to actually do it. One of our favorite team activities has been to go trap shooting together. Anything where we get to compete, give each other a hard time and be [...]

  • Team Meeting Kanban Project

    Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Today we will be going over the ThoughtLab Meeting Light Project. Often we find ourselves so busy that we need to set a visual reminder to the team that we need to have a meeting. This is a very simple project, but we wanted it to match our funky décor as well as be [...]

  • Spying around

    Monday, July 20th, 2009

I came to the office with a backpack full of gadgets and I really don’t know why. I guess I just got lazy about taking everything out of the backpack that I used on the weekend. So I got ThoughtLab’s vibe on a Monday morning with my camera. I was using a big Canon Rebel XSi, but everybody was [...]

  • Getting Rick Here – Part 5

    Monday, June 8th, 2009

Rick arrived last week. It was so great to meet him in person. After hours and days working via IM, having him here is a joy.
He seems to be transitioning well, and his English is very good. I can tell he still thinks in Portuguese and translates in his head, which I’m sure will change [...]

  • Getting Rick Here – Part 4

    Thursday, April 16th, 2009

    Wahoo!!! Rick was approved!!!
Sure enough, it took seven months to prepare the necessary documentation, verifications of awards and letters of recommendations for the O-1 visa for the “extraOrdinarily” talented. Then within eight days, Rick was approved.
I want to offer a special thanks to Adrian Pulfer of A/3 Design, http://www.a3design.com/, an adjunct professor at Brigham Young [...]

  • Having fun with Post-its

    Friday, March 6th, 2009

Jared worked into the wee hours of the morning one night, and while waiting on the process, he became creative with post-its and gave me a flower garden.

Within the next few days he used his laser cutter to create these amazing sailboats.

I was inspired and created a seascape.

  • Pluses In A Down Economy

    Friday, February 6th, 2009

I have to admit that despite all the doom and gloom of the current worldwide economy I have found a few pluses that I have enjoyed. First, over the last couple months I have noticed I can go to any restaurant (as well as many other businesses), even with a large group, and have almost no wait. I get seated almost immediately and the servers seem to care more about giving good service. In fact, good service seems to be more common everywhere. Somehow, in the height of the “good” economy people just didn’t seem as friendly or gracious as they do now…

  • Getting Rick Here – Part 3

    Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

When it comes to bashing, I make a concerted effort to “. . . not say anything at all.” So I will simply say that we had a negative experience with our first immigration attorney, based here in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Then we took a recommendation of an attorney based out of Santa Monica, California. [...]
