A new report is claiming that consumers are using mobile applications more than the actual web.

Flurry likened its mobile data statistics to comScore and Alexa, finding that consumers spent 81 minutes per day using mobile apps, compared to 74 minutes on the web, as the chart below suggests.

What might be the cause of this great shift? Well, it’s a combination of tablet and smartphone shipments surpassing those of desktop and notebooks. Flurry also discovered that consumers are spending 9% more time, on average, using mobile applications.

What does this mean for the web? Could this rise in mobile apps mean the speedy and premature death of the internet? It seems if smartphones keep getting smarter, this might be the case.
